Day 1: Tuesday; MIAMI – EVERGLADES PARK – SANIBEL ISLAND – SUNSET CRUISE
We depart Miami and head northwest for 2 days to experience the unique Florida wetlands, swamps, wildlife, nature, and sunshine. We start by heading into Alligator Alley, the only road that connects Southeastern Florida to the West Coast of Florida. Our first stop is the Everglades Holiday Park (or similar) located in the Everglades Swamps.
Our visit starts with an Airboat ride to explore the “River of Grass” on the airboat ride trail and experience the wonders of the Florida Everglades. See fish, snakes, turtles, alligators, and more in their natural environment.
Trained guides will show you how nature has persevered in fashioning one of the world’s most intriguing environments.
After the ride, take some time, stroll the grounds, and enjoy the exhibition in the park, featuring alligator handling and viewing wildlife such as birds and reptiles, and African spur-thighed tortoises. You can also take a short walk around the complex under the Cypress Trees to appreciate this pristine wet tropical habitat.
After our time in the park, we continue west towards Sanibel Island by crossing Alligator Alley. Here you will have free time for lunch and even a chance to get a quick swim or lie out on the beach if you like, as this is one of Florida’s most beautiful islands along the scenic Gulf of Mexico.
Next, we head for a short drive up to the cozy and charming village of Punta Gorda. Enjoy some free time in the village before we embark on a sunset cruise and see the amazing sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
Overnight: Punta Gorda – Four Points by Sheraton or similar.
Day 2: Wednesday; EDISON/FORD HOUSE – FORT MYERS RIVER DISTRICT – MICCOSUKEE INDIAN VILLAGE – OUTLET SHOPPING
We begin our day with a visit to the Ford-Edison Museum. We will enjoy a visit to the laboratory and grounds of 2 of the most famous figures of the 20th century, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Led by our guide, our tour includes the Edison compound and Edison-Ford Laboratory, complete with real artifacts and inventions of their day.
Get the inside scoop about the great inventors, Thomas Edison & Henry Ford, and their families. See the 1929 historic landscape, evident throughout the entire property.
After our tour, we will enjoy lunchtime on our own in the River District of Fort Myers. The district is known for its boutique shops, arts and culture, and an array of eclectic and fun eating choices.
Next, we head back across the Alligator Alley for a visit to the traditional Indian Village of Miccosukee, where you will experience life as it was before the arrival of European settlers.
And finally, we head to an Outlet Mall (Sawgrass Mills or similar) for some 21st-century bargain hunting. Evening arrival in Miami.
